Celebrations for Bice’s 60th Anniversary, 04-05 June 2008
The celebration of Bice's 60 th anniversary will take place in Paris, France. These two days will be an opportunity to reflect on the world we want for our children.
In front of the changes brought about by globalization, the 60th anniversary of Bice will be an opportunity to reflect on the world we want for our children today and tomorrow. Four "expert groups" - specialists in children's rights, researchers, Bice members and partners working in the field - met in Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe to discuss the situation of children in every continent, in the light of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Over the past 20 years, what have been major advances in each region? Today, what challenges remain for children? What strategies could give more strength to the actions promoted by Bice to defend and promote children's rights in the world?
On June 04, the day "Tomorrow, what world for our children?" will provide an opportunity to share the analysis and recommendations of the 'expert groups' from of 4 continents. This work and the discussions which will follow the presentations from each group will serve as a basis for preparing an ‘appeal' in favour of children, which will be presented in Geneva in 2009 to celebrate the 20 years of the Convention on the Rights of the Child . These anniversaries - 60 years of Bice and 20 years of the Convention - can not be an occasion to welcome the achievements made since the situation of children remains alarming in many parts of the world,. It is thus an occasion to mobilise civil society around the themes of the dignity and rights of the child. June 04 will also be a date for all those who have already made some way in the advancement of children's rights and have been with us in the last 20 years.
