From 23 to 28 November 2009, Bice members from Cambodia, India and Nepal met in Surkhet, in the mid western region of Nepal, to attend a 5- day seminar entitled "Promoting individual and community resilience".
All 23 participants who are working on the prevention of and recovery from child sexual abuse in the community participated in a 2- day field visit in the community based project "Breaking the silence" run by AAWAAJ as well as a 3 -day workshop facilitated by Exil.
They all greeted this kind of seminar which allows them together "to exchange, reflect and learn from their current practice, with a rigour that profoundly deeps in the reality of their work along with the communities". Reflection and questioning have been elaborated from the successes and the challenges they faced in implementing resilience and community based approach. This lead to generate new strategies and tools for a real accompaniment of the community in order to prevent children and women from abuse and support the recovery of those who went through such experiences.
At the end the participants warmly thanked Bice and the OAK Foundation for their respectful support, which believe in the capacity of the community and promote their work to prevent and protect children from abuse.
These experiences will be systematised under a publication and a DVD to be launched in 2010.
